2021 Toyota Tacoma Redesign – Toyota faces stiff competition in both medium and full-size truck categories as the big three US automakers each unveiled brand new products in 2019. The second generation tundra is close to earning its AARP card that has been on the market since 2007 , and although the third-generation Tacoma was introduced recently in 2016, its powertrains feel outdated compared to rivals such as the Ford Ranger, Chevy Colorado and Jeep Gladiator.

Both trucks need a major 2021 Toyota Tacoma Redesign, and fortunately there is evidence that they can receive it. According to the San Antonio Express-News, Toyota is planning a $ 398 million upgrade to the facility where Tacoma and Tundra are built. That means Toyota could offer major improvements to its truck lineup as early as 2021.
Toyota has already revealed the 2020 model year changes for the Tacoma and tundra, and the biggest improvement is the long-awaited addition of Android Auto. But as Toyota looks to introduce new models for 2021, the Japanese automaker has requested a 10-year, 80% tax deduction for investment in its Texas plant. Luisa Casso, a spokeswoman for the plant, said a final decision on the investment will be made in late July or early August. No jobs will be added as part of the investment, but additional robotic technology will improve plant capacity.
The plant currently produces Tacoma and tundra in order, though the two trucks do not share a platform. Toyota is working on a new global Truck platform to support the next generations of both trucks and the European market Hilux, which should make all three easier to produce.
The details of next-generation trucks are limited, but could be introduced for the 2021 model year. Tundra is rumored to drop its 5.7-liter V8 in favor of a 3.5-liter V6 mated to a hybrid gear system, which would drastically improve fuel efficiency. Either way, considering how both Toyota US market trucks need a Refresh, 2021 may not seem to come soon enough.
Not a single market in the world shows the same amount of enthusiasm for the pickup truck as the US market. Pickups have always had a special place in the hearts of American car buyers, and things haven’t changed a bit in recent years. In fact, sales have been on a more or less constant rise and this trend is expected to hold out for a long time. The best trucks 2021 will bring our way are just part of this story.
The pickup truck segment accounted for a total of nearly 3,000,000 units in 2018 – about 2,400,000 of them were full-size trucks and just over 500,000 were medium-sized trucks. This means growth of about 2 percent for the large trucks and almost 16 percent for the revitalized Mid-Size segment.
The absolute leader is still the Ford F Series with over 900,000 units sold in the US last year, and that was followed by another two regular customers: Chevy Silverado with about 585,000 units sold and RAM with about 535,000 deliveries throughout 2018.
On the smaller side of things, it was Toyota Tacoma, which ended up grabbing the lion’s share with about 245,000 deliveries, while Chevy Colorado recorded about 135,000 sales. No other Mid-Size truck had managed to break the six-digit barrier in 2018.
Things are getting even more interesting in both full and medium segments. According to the first quarter of 2019, it is now FCA’s RAM that is in second place, as it has finally succeeded in overhauling the dormant Silverado. In addition, all subsequent years will be richer for a variety of either recurring or brand new models in the US market such as the Ford Ranger, the Jeep Gladiator, and even the all-electric Tesla pickup truck. This only confirms the above statements in favor of pickup truck segment increase.
